The Facility is a multidisciplinary architecture business who specialise in developing innovative, carbon reducing technology for the built environment.
The Facility developed the world's first footfall energy harvesting devices to capture the wasted kinetic energy produced from pedestrian footfall.
The Facility have partnered with US based POWERleap who have been also been developing energy harvesting devices using complimentary technologies. Together, they are integrating kinetic energy harvesting technology into a range of applications including:
- Retrofit solutions
- Green Building Automation
- Public and Urban Realm
The installation at the Willmott Dixon Healthcare Campus within the BRE Innovation Park is the first permanent installation of our SmartFloor system in the UK. SmartFloor is a modular energy-generating floor system, which generates power from pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It is robust and can be easily installed under a wide range of industry standard floor coverings and hard standing surfaces.
Smart2Floor uses a combination of innovative mechanical energy transfer and piezoelectric thin film sandwich. The power generated can be used for a wide variety of uses including:
- Creation zero carbon, renewable, free power
- Secondary device actuation
- Intelligent traffic flow
- Retail traffic patterns
Way finding, accent, and partially sighted illumination. The Facility and POWERleap will be working with Willmott Dixon in order to integrate this exciting technology in some of their leading sustainability projects.
